When the Roses Die: Sexual Harassment

Everything’s coming up Roses. The thought of many women who worked hard to celebrate achievement and excellence.   Expecting to be rewarded accordingly for her diligence and beauty of being a woman.

Once to the Roses of Success flourishes, she lands the new role, the position she wanted or  “The look of success” she created. There’s something about the pleasure of a woman receiving a dozen of roses gifted for accomplishment and success.

What about the roses given with expectation with devious intentions, or some sick sexual request? What happens when the Roses die?

After the roses die she finds herself being pursued by the one she least expected…The one who rewarded her. They appreciated and needed her just as she did the same . The ultimate reward is now determined with a rose of deceit and misconduct.  What does she do?

She could just ignore them and wait until they realize you’re not going to give in. Okay, that’s not an option (note: what not to do).

There are plenty of scenarios similar to this. Some different and more devious. The rewards change from success to love. It could be finance or even just peace. When the roses die,  Just remember you are not alone. Here are some things you can do if you find yourself being sexually harassed or assaulted.

If someone is constantly harassing or giving you attention you don’t want, immediately let them know you are not interested. State what they’re doing is in violation to not only your personal desire, but also against the law.

Report it. If the person continue to harass you, write it down. Each time it happened, what was said, when, and who.

Go to your HR and report the incident. In reporting the Incident you should have documentation to support your allegations. You need to document everything that happens and then document the conversation with HR.

If you are physically threatened or touched, call law enforcement or security.

After you’ve let the person know you’re not having it, reported to HR and it continues, go to EEOC. Often HR may not needed action to stop the harassment. Regardless, don’t give up. You are not alone. Talk to a close friend or even a co-worker.

The silence of Sexual Harassment has been around a long time. It will take a long time for this to change. Don’t give up, you are not alone.

The Fight Against Sexual Harassment

Harvey Weinstein, Matt Lauer, Donald Trump, and the list goes on,  America knows the face of  the a power, controlling male dominating culture sex abuse. The forward backlash to Sexual Harassment in America has again rose to The Fight. This time people are listening.


Victims of Hollywood and Congress are sharing, their stories of abuse and harassment across all media platforms. In depth coverage,  speaking out against the silence of abuse and control of the victims voice. Unfortunately, many of the victims are heard because the perpetrators are men of Power, favored by the elite and wealthy.

When Tarana Burke started the “#MeToo” campaign back in 2007 for survivors to support one another. It is now the perfect mantra to say it happened,  is still happening and  you’re not alone.  Regardless to how much money you have, your race, or where you live. You’re not alone.  Your men have your back.


The government and many companies have recently taken swift action to hold some perpetrators accountable. In the meantime,  social climate of acceptance of this behavior is being rejected.  The “sex cult” accusations and  calls for cancellations of R. Kelly concerts,  #muterkelly are definite signs  of resistance. Men involved in sex with girls and teenagers should no longer be applauded in our community, workplace and definitely not the concert . If your business, of any kind, thrives on the abuse, disrespect and domination of teenagers and  women…resistance awaits and possibly jail.


The message is pretty clear. You may get away with sexual harassment for a moment, a day,  maybe even years. Just know that more and more victims are finding away to speak up, to stand against those who have power. If you have the power to do what the president said he did, move on a woman like a bitch, grab’em by the pussy…you should resist.


Of course all  men are not abusers or pedophiles, or feel they have power and control when it comes to women.  There are plenty of men who love, honor and respect all women. Its shown on our jobs, in our homes and overall in our society.  These men bring hope and change to the attitudes and behavior of the next generation of men.  Here are some things I think we can do to help in the fight against Sexual Harassment:


As men we can:

Speak out against sexual assault and domestic Violence.

Have those difficult conversations about Sexual Assault/Domestic Violence.

Appreciate the Value of women at home and at work.

Believe Women are equal and deserve the same equity of life and respect and honor as men.

Instill respect for women in our Sons teaching and manhood.


When women or men are sexually assaulted, the abuser must pay for their actions. Society most play role in changing the attitude and views of the victims and the victimizer.  There is no excuse or I’m sorry that change the rules of accountability.


EEOC Harassment Statistics

According to the EEOC, $52.3 million dollars in damages were received from claims in sexual harassment in 2011. The following statistics break down the results of harassment claims filed.


  1. Total Claims Filed: 11,364
  2. Percentage of Charges Filed By Males: 16.3%
  3. Settlements Made: 1,367 / 10.9%
  4. Withdrawals with Benefits: 1,150 / 9.1%
  5. Administrative Closures: 2,635 / 21%
  6. No Reasonable Cause: 6,658 / 53%
  7. Reasonable Cause: 761 / 6.1%
  8. Successful Conciliations: 288 / 2.3%
  9. Unsuccessful Conciliations: 473 / 3.8%
  10. Merit Resolutions: 3,278 / 26.1%
